MY STORY
Sean is a barrister with a specialty in antitrust, regulatory & civil litigation, an award-winning musician, conductor, producer, and photographer.
A barrister of 9 years' standing (Call: 2015), Sean served the Hong Kong Competition Commission for 5 years where he quickly rose through the ranks, eventually appointed as Deputy Senior Legal Counsel. As a private-practising barrister, Sean has appeared as advocate from the Magistrates to the Court of Appeal in matters civil and criminal. Prior to that, Sean had the coveted honour of serving the Judges of the Court of Final Appeal under the prestigious Judicial Assistant (CFA) programme. Sean graduated from the University of Hong Kong with degrees in BBA(Law), LL.B., and P.C.LL., with multiple scholarships and awards.
Sean is the Founder, Former Chairman and Music Director of the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra ("HKFO"), one of the largest choral-orchestral music festivals in Hong Kong. Sean has worked with and hosted numerous international artists including Grammy® artists such as Joshua Bell, The King's Singers, and Eric Whitacre, the Chopin-award-winning pianist Yundi Li, and cellist Jian Wang, as well as YouTube sensations such as TwoSet Violin. Sean has also worked with local favourites such as the RubberBand and George Lam, among many others. Sean's works has been featured in a documentary produced by the Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (Second German Television), and was exhibited in 2016 at the Musée de la musique at the Philharmonie de Paris as part of the “Le Mythe Beethoven” exhibition.
Sean is a photographer working at the highest professional level. In 2024, Sean was selected as a Winner of The Prix de la Photographie in Paris (PX3) and the Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA), one of the most prestigious photography awards in Europe and in Asia. Sean has established himself as a professional wedding photographer, and coaches portrait photography in his spare time.
Among his many interests, Sean completed a full marathon at the 40ᵗʰ London Marathon in 2020, enjoy long hikes, and is a chef aficionado and food lover. Sean is a long-time Liverpool fan and has supported the Club since the 90s.

Sean designs and teaches the Civil Procedure course to full-time LL.B. and J.D. students at the University of Hong Kong and helps prepare teaching materials for the Civil Litigation and Commercial Dispute Resolution courses for the PCLL programme.

During Sean’s tenure at the Competition Commission (CC), Sean has advised the CC on multiple investigatory and litigation matters, including advising on the investigations and/or enforcement at the Competition Tribunal of numerous cartels in the public housing, textbooks, cleaning services, IT, fisheries, hospitality, and airline etc. sectors.

Sean has been instructed in a wide range of areas: on the civil side including professional negligence, general commercial disputes, chancery matters, shareholder disputes, conveyancing matters, landlord and tenant, intellectual property, among others; on the criminal side including murder, conspiracy to defraud, trafficking in a dangerous drug, among many others. Sean has applied and resisted Order 14 applications, resisted striking out applications, continued Mareva injunctions, applied for disclosure orders, and had conducted in his own right full blown civil trials at the High Court and prosecuted trials at the Magistrates Court on fiat. Sean has appeared as an advocate (either in his own right or as a led junior) in different levels of Court including the High Court, the District Court, the Magistrates' Court, as well as in commercial arbitrations.

終審法院司法助理 Judicial Assistant (CFA). Sean was one of the top candidates in the legal industry in the Year 2015/16 to be selected by the Chief Justice and the Permanent Judges of the Court of Final Appeal to participate in the coveted one-year Judicial Assistant programme. At the time, Sean had the privilege and honour in serving the Former Chief Justice Ma, Justice Riberio PJ, Former Justice Tang PJ, and Justice Fok PJ. Sean’s duties include assisting the Chief Justice and the Permanent Judges to review and provide a preliminary view on the disposal of rule 7 summons (of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal Rules, Cap 484); conduct legal research on leave and substantive appeals; draft speeches and articles for the Chief Justice and the Permanent Judges; prepare summaries of facts (English and Chinese) and press summaries of judgments (English and Chinese).

Pupillage. Sean served his pupillage under Victor Dawes SC, Liu Man-Kin (as HH Judge Liu then was), K.C. Chan (as HH Judge Chan then was), and Daniel Marash SC.
